Composition:
- Each enteric coated tablet contains: 25 or 50 mg Diclofenac sodium
- Each dispersible tablet of Voltack D 50 contains:
46.5 mg Diclofenac equivalent to 50 mg Diclofenac Sodium
- Each ampoule contains 75 mg / 3ml Diclofenac Sodium Properties:
Voltack belongs to a family of medicines called non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with antirheumatic, analgesic and antipyretic properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin biosynthesis which cause inflammation, pain and fever.
Indications:
Voltack is used to relieve inflammation that may occur in the following cases:
- Different types of arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
- Other painful conditions where swelling is a problem such as back pain, rheumatism, muscle strains, sprains and tendonitis.
- Menstrual pain.
- Severe migraine attacks.
- Renal and biliary colic.
- Painful postoperative conditions.
- Acute attack of gout.
Dosage:
- The usual dose is 50 to 150 mg daily in divided 1-3 doses.
- Swallow whole tablet of Voltack 25 or 50 mg without crushing.
- Dissolve one tablet of Voltack D 50 in half cup of water.
- Voltack ampoule can be administered either by intramuscular or intravenous infusion in (Dextrose or Normal saline) solution which should be buffered with sodium bicarbonate solution (0.5 ml 8.4% or 1 ml 4.2%).
- In severe cases a second dose can be administered after 6 hours.
- Maximum daily dose is 150 mg, It should not be given for more than two days.
- Voltack ampoule must not be given by intravenous directly.
- The intravenous infusion solution should not be used if crystals,
precipitates or turbidity are observed. Contraindications:
Voltack is not used in these cases:
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac, Aspirin or NSAID
- Gastrointestinal bleeding or gastric or duodenal ulcer
- During the third trimester of pregnancy
- Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac failure
- Haemostasis disorders or (for intramuscular route of administration only)
- Children below 14 years
Side effects:
Voltack may cause very rare side effects such as:
- Gastrointestinal disorders including nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, loss of appetite and stomach pain
- Dizziness, drowsiness or headache
- Feeling depressed, anxious or irritable
- Injection site reaction or injection site pain (In injection treatment)
Precautions:
Tell your doctor in these cases:
- Pregnancy or breast-feeding.
- Heart disease
- Cardiovascular disease such as chest pain, shortness of breath
and hypertension
- Blood problems such as anaemia
- Kidney and liver disease
- Asthma
- Haemorrhoids and irritation of the rectum
- Voltack ampoule is not recommended in adolescents Drug interactions:
Tell your doctor if you are taking these drugs:
- Aspirin, salicylates, ibuprofen, or other NSAID medicines
- Anticoagulants such as (Warfarin)
- Digoxin
- Diuretics
- Medicines to treat diabetes such as (Metformin)
- Medicines used to suppress the immune system such as Cyclosporin
- Trimethoprim.
- Certain antibiotics called Quinolones
- Medicines used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure
- Corticosteroids
