Composition:
Each tablet of Turnix contains 5 mg, 10 mg or 20 mg Torsemide
Properties:
Turnix is a loop diuretic used to reduce edema (swelling) from multiple causes such as heart failure, renal disease, or liver disease.
It works by causing the kidneys to get rid of excess fluid and
salts from the body into the urine.
Indications:
Turnix is used in these cases:
- Hypertension (alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents).
- To get rid of extra fluid.
Dosage:
- Congestive Heart Failure:
10 - 20 mg once daily initially, this dose may be increased as recommended by the doctor.
- Chronic Renal Failure:
20 mg once daily initially, this dose may be increased as recommended by the doctor.
- Hepatic Cirrhosis:
5 -10 mg once daily initially with aldosterone antagonist or
potassium sparing diuretic, individual dose not to exceed 40 mg
- Hypertension: 2.5 - 5 mg, increased to 10 mg/day in (4 - 6) weeks as needed.
Maximum daily dose of Turnix 200 mg daily.
Contraindications:
Turnix is not used in these cases:
- Hypersensitivity to Torsemide or Povidone
- Anuria
Side effects:
Turnix can cause these side effects:
- Gastrointestinal disorders such as (constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea and stomach upset)
- Cough
- Dizziness
- Electrolyte imbalance in the body
- Increased urination
- Headache
- Insomnia
- Joint pain
- Nervousness
- Runny nose
- Ringing in the ears
Precautions:
Tell your doctor before taking Turnix in these cases:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Electrolyte imbalance such as (hypokalemia or hyperglycemia)
- Gout
- Severe liver disease with cirrhosis
- Heart disease
- Kidney problems
- Children less than 18 years old
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Drug interactions:
Tell your doctor if you take other medicines:
- Amikacin
- Amisulpride
- Cisapride
- Gentamicin, kanamycin, netilmicin, paromomycin, streptomycin,
tobramycin and neomycin
- Squill
