Composition:
- Each capsule of Amlopin contains: 5 mg amlodipine (as besilate)
- Each tablet of Amlopin contains: 10 mg amlodipine (as besilate)
Properties:
Amlopin relaxes peripheral and coronary vascular smooth muscle. It produces coronary vasodilation by inhibiting the entry of calcium ions into the channels. It also increases myocardial oxygen
delivery in patients with stable angina.
Indications:
Amlopin is used in these cases:
- Mild to moderate hypertension.
- Chronic stable angina.
Dosage:
Initially dose is 5 mg once daily, this dose may be increased to a maximum dose 10 mg once daily depending on the individual patient's response.
Contraindications:
Amlopin is not used in these cases:
- Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other calcium channel antagonist.
- Severe hypertension.
- Unstable angina.
- Unstable heart failure after acute myocardial infarction.
Side effects:
Amlopin is generally well tolerated but these side effects rarely occur:
- Edema
- Headache
- Fatigue and dizziness
- Palpitations
- GIT disturbances e.g. abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, diarrhea and constipation
Precautions:
Tell your doctor in these cases:
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Elderly patients
- Heart failure
- Children
- Pregnancy and breast feeding
Drug interactions:
Tell your doctor if you take other drugs such as:
- CYP 3 A 4 inhibitors (e.g. azole antifungals and ritonavir)
- Simvastatin
- Ciclosporin and conivaptan

Storage:
Store at a temperature below 30 C.
